Heart and Dart
Agrotis exclamationis


The main distinctive identifying feature of the Heart and Dart is the black band across the front of the thorax, when viewed head-on.

Two generations - Mid May to late August with a smal second generation is September (usually only in the south of the UK). The Heart and Dart is a common species throughout the UK.

Wingspan 30-40mm

Comes to light - may occur in large numbers during peak emergence in light traps.

Larval Food plants
A wide range of wild and cultivated herbaceous plants.

Habitat Requirements
Occurs in all habitats except at high altitude. Common in suburban gardens.
